About the Artist: Raphael Jiya

I’m Raphael Jiya, but call me Raph. I was born in Malawi but have lived in Nottingham, UK since I was 8.

How did I find myself spending crazy hours staring at a screen creating art you ask? Ok, picture this, It’s a normal Tuesday… I come home from school, boom! the love of my life was there, she was a clunky, old, sexy beast named Miss Windows 98, and I spent hours and hours messing around with Microsoft Paint. That’s where it all started for me.

My art is a mash-up of my Malawian roots and British upbringing, creating a unique and colorful mix. I’m known for my bold use of color and eye-catching compositions. One of my standout pieces, “Galaxy,” was featured in Advanced Photoshop magazine. It’s a prime example of how I blend stunning visuals with deep stories.

I’m also big on celebrating Blackness. My work has been recognized by DesignMantic for highlighting an important part of history.

On my site, you’ll find a wide range of my creations. Check out “Orion’s Rose,” a romantic piece showing an astronaut carrying a rose through space—talk about love with no limits. Other faves include “Strong Heart,” and “Lonely Walk Home,” each one giving you a peek into my world.

Dive in and see what stories my art has to tell. Enjoy the ride!
